Fence

Well, finally all the fence we have done up by the house is painted. Still have to paint that ratty looking gate but that will take a different kind of paint since it is metal. The fence at the front of the property is done so will get some of that painted in a few days when it gets cooler. Farrier comes this afternoon. Hawk, Star, Spice and Tessa will be done. Gave the horses a real treat last night, carrots! All but Sandy loved them. This morning we tried lettuce. Rose just loves it and Spice, Sonny, Tessa and Sandy did eat theirs. I think Star did too, haven't checked her feed pan. Hawk just spit it out. It's the first thing I have ever found that he does not like. They each only got a little bit. So they had salad as well as their regular food this morning, carrots, lettuce and a little vinegar. The vinegar helps with the flies. Another week has gone by, time is going fast! Enjoy the last Saturday in September 2008.

Hiding

Can you find the Appy in this picture? If you click on the picture, it will enlarge. Good luck!

I have been painting again. When I quit for the day, I look like an Appy! LOL

Fog

This is the view from our front porch this morning. Mornings are cool and damp but the afternoons are warm and pleasant. I love the early mornings, listenings to the birds sing. This morning, the crows were discussing something important, it took a while for them to make a decision and move on, lol. Gary returned safely from MO last night. Our place up there has finally sold and the yard needed some attention before closing. Glad it has sold. That means we can build more of the wood fence that I love. I have been painting what we have built so far. Got the round pen done and started on a stretch of fence but ran out of paint so painting is on hold until I go to town and get more. This will probably be a yearly thing but I don't mind. I love white wood fence.
Horse pictures from this morning are at the link. The silly battery in the camera died before I could get a close up of each horse and Buddy/Miss Kitty.
Thank you to everyone who reads my silly blog. Have a wonderful weekend, I know I will.

Life is good. Nothing like sitting in the yard watching the herd graze.

Lawn Mowers

Tessa and Sandy now have the run of the big yard. Lots of yummy grass to munch on. Last night, Tessa actually wanted to go out with the bunch that goes to the north pasture. She was hurrying towards the gate as we were leading them through. Don't think she realizes just how long a walk it is to the big pasture. She and Sandy are happy however to be out on fresh grass. Tessa is walking so much better now! She is on nothing for pain and only a hoof and joint supplement with her feed. She can keep up with me as I lead her at a normal horse pace. Yea!!!! We got a little rain from Ike that was appreciated. Our thoughts are with those who got it worse.

More pictures are at the link to Picasa. It's cool today with the wind from the NW and it feels so good. Right now it is 65 degrees. Love it.

Tessa, Buddy, Kitty, and Sandy

Went out with the camera to get some new pics. We changed the girls' feed 10 days ago to see if we could get them to put on more weight. We went with Triple Crown Senior. I talked with the area rep and he was very nice and found a place that we could get this feed. It's about a 30 mile drive but so is everywhere else, lol. I think it is helping Tessa and Sandy. They look like they have put on some weight and they just love the feed. Buddy has put on weight too, guess he is preparing for winter.

More on Sonny

Sonny was let out to graze yesterday afternoon for a short while and he spent most of the time next to the fence with Spice. She is so in love, lol. They groom each other and she licks his neck. Of course she is heat and he is a gelding but they are enjoying each other. This morning, there were 3 piles of fresh poop in Sonny's pen and the water level was down in the tank, yipee!! It is cool here, 62 degrees and rainy. We let him out to graze this morning and he ran and bucked all the way back to the fence and his girl. Now, it is raining harder and he is in the barn with Sandy and Tessa. So much for love!!!

Update on Sonny-after 2 days in an equine clinic being treated for his colic, he got to come home this morning. We are slowly starting him back on full rations. A horse can lose a lot of weight in 2 days without food. He is glad to be home I think.
